Civic groups enter Fezile Dabi LGE26 race

Civic movements in the Fezile Dabi region say they are responding to growing frustration among communities over service delivery, accountability and the way municipalities are being governed.
As more community organisations enter the political sphere, leaders of various movements say they have heeded the call by residents to bring local solutions to the service delivery challenges affecting their communities.
Lentswe la Setjhaba leader Victor Nyembe and Fezile Dabi Civic Movement founder April Motaung say Metsimaholo municipality needs qualified professionals to run its affairs.
“Lentswe La Setjhaba Civic Movement’s primary objective to contest these local government elections is to bring about change. We mean to bring capacity in our community. Our municipality is engulfed with a lot of illiteracy and in its current form, 86% of councillors do not have matric – that on its own poses risk for the municipality as these are lawmakers.”
“We exist because there is a huge gap between available policies that can change our lives and implementation. Politicians talk and they don’t act, so that is the reason for our existence and we exist to afford our people a voice,” adds Motaung.
