Deputy Minister in the Presidency Nonceba Mhlauli has urged young people to go out and vote in the upcoming November 4 local government elections, as efforts intensify to resolve the jobs crisis.

She released the Presidential Youth Employment Interventions report for the the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year in Pretoria on Wednesday. The report shows that nearly 140 000 earning and learning opportunities were secured for young people through various government programmes during the period.

Mhlauli says young people have a critical role to play in the country’s development. “As young people, when we decide to stay at home, because of whatever frustrations that we have, which are very legitimate, we are allowing a situation where those that do participate are able to then make decisions on our behalf. So, it’s important that we take ownership of our future, take ownership of our country, take ownership of our wards, our municipalities, and really ensure that we participate.”
