DA files papers opposing ANC’s candidate list dispute case

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has filed papers with the Electoral Court to oppose the African National Congress’s candidate list dispute.
In a statement, the ANC’s GNU partner says their intervention seeks to uphold the law, and the Electoral Commission’s (IEC) deadlines, which applied to all parties fairly and equally.
The DA says the ANC, or any other party, cannot receive special treatment because it failed to meet a deadline that applied equally to everyone, further adding that rules and deadlines must apply equally to every political party wishing to contest an election.
DA’s Jan De Villiers, ” Deadlines are deadlines. The DA filed papers to oppose the ANC’s bid to field candidates in six municipalities after missing the IEC deadline. Every party submitted on time. The ANC can’t get special treatment now. Equal rules are the foundation of free and fair elections. The law must apply to everyone without exception.”
